Dear Comrades!

When the communist government raises food prices in 1962, the rebellious workers from the small industrial town of Novocherkassk go on strike. The massacre which then ensues is seen through the eyes of a devout party activist.

Dear Comrades! presents a politically driven story, but it was backed by the Russian state and has significant government involvement, making it not strictly independent. Despite its artistic approach and historical exploration, the state's role in its production and distribution moves it into a more mainstream category.
