Overview

In August 1961, speleologists from Italy’s booming North arrive on a Calabrian plateau where time stands still. The intruders discover one of the world’s deepest caves, the Bifurto Abyss, under the gaze of an old shepherd, the only witness of the pristine territory.

Indie vibes check

Il buco is an independent film due to its small-scale production, low-budget approach, and its focus on naturalistic storytelling. Michelangelo Frammartino’s direction and the minimalistic style of the film, alongside the lack of significant studio backing, contribute to its status as independent cinema.
